Our Benefits

Starting fresh in a new city as a student or young professional comes with a range of everyday needs. Whether you are looking for health insurance, cleaning equipment, or are wondering what bike rental options are available – we’re here to help. Home in Berlin offers useful tips and information to make your everyday life easier, so you can focus on what really matters: your studies, your job, or simply enjoying the city.

Health insurance for students

Health insurance

Starting life in a new country can be a major challenge. For many students sorting out health insurance is a completely new experience – and it’s required for university enrolment in Germany.

Logo mkk – meine krankenkasse

One option is our partner mkk – meine Krankenkasse. They offer health insurance for students, take care of the registration process and provide all the necessary information. The insurance coverage includes

  • full insurance with a fair health and long-term care insurance contribution from €125.22 per month,
  • €1,300 in additional benefits,
  • €600 premium reimbursement,
  • 100 % coverage of travel vaccination costs.

Student health insurance is valid until the end of the 14th semester or until the age of 30, whichever comes first. After that, voluntary continued coverage is available. Interested? You can find more information on the mkk padlet via the link below.

Borrowing cleaning equipment

HIB Cleaning Utilities

Are you renting one of our student apartments in Berlin for a short time and don’t want to buy your own cleaning equipment? No problem. We can provide you with a

  • vacuum cleaner,
  • mop,
  • bucket,
  • sponges,
  • and more.

From Monday to Friday between 9 and 12 in the morning you can contact our cleaning service staff in any student hall of residence to borrow anything you need.

As a small “rental fee”, we expect you to make a donation of 2,00 € to the aid organization “Arche”, which uses your donation to support families in need in Berlin. Please show the donation receipt as proof when borrowing.

Rent a bike instead of buying

Rent a bike

If you are a student or young professional staying in Berlin for a limited period of time, it may make more sense to rent a bike rather than buy one.

Your advantages

Flexible and safe

With a rental bike you stay flexible. You don’t have to worry about theft as the bike is protected by a built-in GPS tracker.

Maintenance and repairs

If something goes wrong, the rental company takes care of repairs or provides a replacement bike.

No long term commitment

A rental bike gives you access to a high-quality and reliable bicycle without making a long-term commitment. You can cancel the contract at any time. This saves you the cost of buying a bike and you don’t have to worry about reselling it at the end of your stay.

Swapfiets: let´s ride together!

We recommend Swapfiets as a bike rental company – it’s one of the most affordable providers in Berlin. You get a bike for a low monthly fee and Swapfiets makes sure it always works.

Problems while riding? Just use the Swapfiets app to request a repair or exchange your bike within 48 hours!
